Michelle – Hi my name is Michelle. I graduated from the Toronto School of Business in 1998 as a Certified Dental Assistant. I was originally hired by Dr. Appleton to cover a maternity leave but was thrilled to be hired on full time – I have been at the office for over 4 years now! I am very proud to be part of such a great team.

Lori – Hi my name is Lori. I graduated from Durham College as a Preventative Dental Assistant in 1997. I started working with Dr. Appleton over 8 years ago as a new graduate. My main position in the practice is the office administrator but I also enjoy working with children and assisting Dr. Appleton. I have thoroughly enjoyed my years at the office and look forward to many more new and exciting years to come.

Sue – My name is Sue and I have a been a part of Dr. Appleton’s Dental Team since June 2004. My role as part of our team is to discuss Dr. Appleton’s treatment plan with you, simplify your insurance coverage benefits, and prepare a financial plan that best suits your needs. I look forward to helping you achieve your dental health goals.

Hilary – Hi my name is Hilary and I will be your hygienist. My dental career began at Dr. Appleton’s office after graduating in 1999 from Durham College ’s Dental Assisting program. I was Dr. Appleton’s assistant until 2000 when I was accepted into the Dental Hygiene program at ECC in Buffalo , New York . I was honored to be hired back into the team as a dental hygienist in 2003.

Sandy – My name is Sandy . I have enjoyed my dental hygiene career for the last 9 years. I joined Dr. Appleton’s team almost two years ago after moving from the west end of Toronto . I am lucky to be working with such caring people. One of the best parts of my day is meeting the people that come to this office. I look forward to meeting you!

Marie – My name is Marie and I graduated from Cambrian College Hygiene Program in 1992. Prior to that I worked as a dental assistant. I have worked at this office part-time since 2003. I enjoy working with Dr. Appleton and the rest of the team very much!

Carolynn– My name is Carolynn and I have been working at Dr. Appleton’s office part time since 2005. It’s been fun working with Dr. Appleton and the rest of the team. It’s also been enjoyable meeting the patients who I get to see on Wednesday evenings!

DR. R. TODD APPLETON

Hi – I’m Dr. R. Todd Appleton. I grew up in the Beach area of Toronto although my university education took me to London Ontario where I attended the University of Western Ontario . After receiving my BSc in Physics in 1993, I was thrilled to be accepted to the Faculty of Dentistry at University of Western Ontario .

People sometimes ask me why I wanted to become a dentist. I’ve wanted to become one as long as I can remember – there is even proof of this in my Grade 8 creative writing journals. After I underwent orthodontics as a teen, I could see how my smile and more importantly my confidence improved - I

wanted to do the same for others. It was somewhat fitting that when I graduated in 1997, I was given the American Academy of Orthodontics award.

I left London and moved to Whitby in 1997 and I was pleased to join this dental practice, which has been a fixture on Whitby ’s main street since 1967 when it was opened by Dr. Nicholas V. Baker who retired in 2003. I enjoy serving Whitby ’s community and keep up to date with the latest advances in Dentistry techniques. I regularly attend continuing education courses to upgrade my knowledge and skills. Some courses I have taken recently include Orthodontics and Advances in Esthetic Dentistry.

In my free time, I enjoy music and acting. I have played the trumpet with the Pickering Concert Band and I am involved with the Oshawa Little Theatre. In fact – I won the “Thea” award for best supporting actor in a musical last year. It has been fun to hear that patients in the audience have been watching me act onstage thinking “that guy looks familiar – hey wait! That’s my dentist!!!”
